Races & Locations
Snow Elves - The snow elves specialise in the elements of water and air. Although they have a royal family, their land is governed by an elven council of nobles. The royals are more like figureheads, but are still the final decision makers when it comes to matters of their people. They originate in the far north, near the arctic circle.
Wood Elves - The wood elves specialise in the elements of fire and earth, and are led by a monarchy. There are only a select few who integrate with humans, as a matter of diplomacy. They generally prefer to keep themselves to themselves however, and are very wary of other species. They originate deep in the amazon rainforest.
The Crystal Fountain - Heavily guarded on an island fortress, by both Snow and Wood elves. The Crystal Fountain is the source of all elven magic, abundant in raw mana energy. It is processed into a drink, and shipped to the Snow and Wood elves in equal quantities.
Appearance
Elves vary in skin colour, eye and hair colour, but they all share one very distinctive trait: long, pointed ears of around 2-3 inches long. They are a similar height to humans, considered 'ethereal' in appearance and are generally slender in build.
Diet
Elven diet is almost always plant-based, although those who have integrated into human society can enjoy other foods. They generally eat light meals and drink water or elf wine. Elf wine isn't actually alcoholic: it is a drink comprised of nourishment from the Crystal Fountain, containing mana. Elf wine is a staple of the elven diet, and they grow weaker if they haven't consumed it for a long time.
Magic
All elves have inherent magic within them, but some can tap into that power more effectively than others. As the royal families have strong genes for magical talent, they tend to be the strongest weilders of magic and are almost always magi. The royal families and nobles have more access to the Crystal Fountain, they can use the extra mana to bolster their powers even more.
Spellblade or Magus?
A spellblade channels magic through a blade, blunt or bow.
A magus uses a more efficient way to channel magic through their hands, and is generally more powerful than a spellblade. Magi are always nobles or royalty, although there are some spellblades in the royal household of Snow Elves who have given themselves the name 'Frostweaver'.
Heirarchy
Royal - Noble - Magi - Spellblade - Commoner (although most magi are royals or nobles anyway).
Commoners have been known to become spellblades, and even magi (on very rare occasions). Some commoners are born with a strong inherent magical ability, and are able to prove themselves as magic users with hard work and dedication. Some commoners do this so they are granted more access to the Crystal Fountain - for themselves, and/or their family.
Many commoners suffer from weakness due to mana starvation, as they are not seen as worthy of the Fountain's mana. They tend to live shorter lives than those higher up.
Strengths
- Inherent magical ability
- Typical lifespan of 300+ years
- 'Ethereal' beauty
- Snow elves are comfortable in below freezing temperatures
Weaknesses
- Mana addiction - have to consume elf wine regularly
- Slender stature/ unable to build great levels of muscle mass
- Can be killed as humans can
- Snow elves get uncomfortable in temperatures above 21oC/70oF
